Mrs. Clayton is a graduate of Meredith College where she received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree. While at Meredith, Mrs. Clayton was the principal cellist of the Meredith College Orchestra. She also played with the Raleigh Civic Symphony, The Meredith College String Trio and Quartet, and numerous other ensembles. Additionally, she has played with the Raleigh Symphony, the Meredith College Orchestra and with the worship band at her church.

Prior to her studying at Meredith, Mrs. Clayton graduated from Page High School in Greensboro, NC. While in high school, she played with the Page High School Orchestra, the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra, numerous All County and All State Orchestras as well as the NC Honors All State Orchestra.

Mrs. Clayton has been playing the cello since she was young, studying under Scott Walker through the Suzuki Method. She continued her study with Virginia Hudson while at Meredith College. While her primary instrument is the cello, Mrs. Clayton also enjoys playing and teaching the violin and viola as well. At Meredith, Mrs. Clayton studied violin under Dana Friedli.

Mrs. Clayton currently teaches cello, violin and viola privately from her home. She has also taught strings at Davis Drive Middle School, the Magellan Charter School and Apex High School. In addition, she has directed the orchestra at the IBPS NC Temple. Currently, she is the assistant director of the Triangle Youth String Orchestra through the Triangle Youth Music organization.

Mrs. Clayton also enjoys arranging music for string orchestra and chamber groups. She has recently had several of her works published (check them out here). She studied music theory with Dr. Tony Vaglio at Meredith College and served as his teaching assistant for three years when she taught hands on labs using the Finale Music Software.

Mrs. Clayton enjoys spending time with her husband, Justin and their three kids. She also loves to play Irish fiddle music with her dad, playing music with the worship team at her church, Peace Church where she serves as the Assistant Music Director.
